Elizabeth Ann Murnik
age 94, passed away on Saturday August 11, 2018 at her home in Fifield. She was born on October 1, 1923 in Park Falls, the daughter of Leonard and Karen (Knutson) Stein. Her early life and schooling were in Fifield where she graduated from high school. On September 13, 1947 she married John Murnik. Betty spent most of her life as a bartender and cook managing the Park Falls Country Club for many years. She loved to hunt and fish, shooting many nice bucks. She also was an avid gardener, berry picker and canner. She enjoyed the woods, driving her ATV and snowmobile on all the trails, and bowling. Betty also worked for the US Forest Service serving as the first woman to man a fire tower and worked as a recreation technician and office clerk.
She is survived by:
her sister Corinne Hoppe of Butternut
her brother Leonard J. (Roz) Stein of Pike Lake
and many nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jean Marie who passed away at the age of 12, her husband John, her sisters: Dorothy Peters, Arlene Hawley, Mary Szymik, Laura Gunderson and her brother Robert Stein.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 18, 2018 at 11:00am from St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara and Deacon Chet Ball will co-officiate.
A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
Burial will take place at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
