Stanley Major

Stanley Major age 99, of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Care Partners. A Mass of Christian Burial for Stanley will be held on Saturday September 24, 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish (St. Stanislaus) at 1:30 PM. Rev. Thomas Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. A general rosary will be prayed for Stanley at 6:30 PM Friday night at the Funeral chapel. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until the time of services Saturday at the church before Mass. Stanley was born May 21, 1917 in Sulejow, Poland; the son of Waclaw and Helena (Wojnielowicz) Major. He grew up in Poland and married Helena Lachowska in October 1939. The couple had a daughter Danuta who was born in 1940. Unfortunately, shortly after the couple married Stanley was captured by the Germans in World War II and was sent to Germany and forced to work on a farm until the War ended in 1945. The couple never reunited and Stanley moved to the United States after the war, settling with a family from Pennsylvania who sponsored his travel from Europe. In 1950 he moved to Chicago and worked in the stockyards. In Chicago he married Mary Iwaniec on November 10, 1951. The couple moved to Stevens Point in 1952 and began farming on the Eastside of Stevens Point. The couple had a daughter Margaret, and Stanley changed career paths when he began working at Joerns Furniture Company and retired from there as an inspector. Mary passed away in 1969 and Stanley remarried on March 22, 1974 to Stella Seymour, who passed in March 1990. Stanley enjoyed gardening, canning, and fishing. He was very proud to be Polish and to be a naturalized United States Citizen. Stanley is survived by his daughter Margaret (Thomas) Kelley, Elm Grove. 4 step daughters: Arlene (Leonard S.) Firkus, Stevens Point; Barb Holub, CA; Sally Winters, WI; Donna (Jerome) Greenwald , IL. 1 stepson: Chester (Patricia) Seymour, IL. One brother: Zdzislaw Major. 5 grandchildren: Margaret’s children: Daniel and Lisa. Danuta’s children: Marek, Margaret, and Izabela. 3 step grandchildren: Christopher A. Firkus , Audrey (Bob) Omelina, Pauline M. Firkus. Special grandniece: Gosia (Roman) Kulhanek and their girls: Julianna and Melania. Great nephew: Pawel. Special friends: Emily Ramczyk and Jane & Jerry Kapla. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 wives, and his daughter Danuta, 1 sister; Zosia, 2 brothers; Stephan, and Marian. Thank you to the wise doctors, nurses, case manager, and social worker, Certified Nursing Assistants, housekeeping staff, food department staff, and all others at Ministry Medical Hospital who thoughtfully and wonderfully cared for Stanley. Thank you to those of you who supported Margaret, Stanley’s daughter. You listened and it meant a lot to me. Thank you to the Ministry Medical Hospice staff for taking good care of Stanley in his final days. Thank you to all the staff at Care Partners Assisted Living past and present; you were his finest caregivers and his closest family for over a year. We are very grateful to you. Thank you so much to his family and his friends. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for all the love and support you have given us.
