Florian S. Bray, 86, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015, at Manorcare Health Services, Kingsford. He was born September 17, 1929, in Norway, Mich. son of the late Joseph and Mary (Masty) Bray. Florian grew up in Norway and graduated from Vulcan High School, Class of 1948. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Florian served in the 82nd Airborne Division and trained at Fort Benning, Ga. where he received his Glider Medal. He flew the CG-4A Glider which was a high-wing cabin aircraft having a steel-tube fuselage covered with fabric. Florian was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Colorgaurd and marched in Michigan and Wisconsin until age 82. He married Patricia Baumler on June 26, 1954, at St. Mary St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain by Msgr. Pellisier. Florian worked for Bechtel Engineering Company, the Groveland Mine for 23 years and Lakeshore Incorporated for 10 years as a draftsman, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Florian was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Lions. He was a proud coach of the 1971, State Champion Babe Ruth team that advanced on to the Regional Championship in Kentucky. Florian enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, and was especially proud of the eight point buck he shot last year at the age of 85. He loved spending time with his family and never missed his children and grandchildrens sporting events. Florian is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pat; four sons, John (Deborah) Bray, Kingsford, David (Linda Vivio) Bray, Sagola, Paul (Brenda) Bray, Campbellsport, Wis. and Robert (Margaret) Bray, Iron Mountain; two daughters, Debra (David) King, St. Michael, Minn. and Mary (Bob) Jayne, Iron Mountain; Sister-in-law, Marge Nicolas, Iron Mountain; one brother-in-law, Donald Gunville, Niagara; fourteen grandchildren, Robert (Terri Lindquist) Jayne, Kevin (Krista) Jayne, Kristi (Bradd) Gunville, Tori (Corey) Benson, Ryan Bray, Jason (Therese) Bray, John (Rachael) Bray, Bryan (Bridget Sarfani) Bray, Jamie (Jason) Adams, Leah (Justin) Simon, Samantha (Aaron) Walsh, Rachel King, McKenzie Bray and Tyler Otis; seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Albert and John Bray; three sisters, Frances Menapace, Ann Schwei and Catherine Tinetti; one daughter-in-law, Debra Bray; one sister-in-law, Margaret Gunville and one brother-in-law, Louis Nicolas. Visitation will be held Friday, December 18, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The American Legion Uren-Cooper Johnson Post. No. 50, Iron Mountain will accord Military Honors at graveside. A memorial will be established in Florian’s memory.
